Mr. Sogol graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts in history. He then earned his Juris Doctor from The University of Alabama School of Law in 1973. Prior to entering private practice, attorney Sogol worked in the Public Defender's Office in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, for over four years.

In addition to criminal defense, Mr. Sogol practices in other areas, including civil rights, and constitutional law. Through his law practice, he has spent over 40 years protecting the rights of individuals throughout the west Alabama area. Attorney Sogol is a founding member and Past President of the Alabama Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.  Attorney Sogol is a member of the Alabama State Bar and is approved to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Central and Southern Districts of Alabama.

Mr. Sogol is an active member of the American Civil Liberties Union and frequently is working throughout the state on First Amendment issues such as religion and prayer in schools. His work has earned him multiple honors and recognition, including being named a Super Lawyer in Criminal Law in Alabama. He was also awarded the Roderick Beddow Sr. Award by the Alabama Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.  Aditionally, Mr. Sogol is a fellow in the American Board of Criminal Lawyers and serves as a member of the Alabama Sentencing Commission, representing criminal defense lawyers across the state on that body.

In addition to his private practice, Mr. Sogol also spends time educating others in criminal law. He is an adjunct professor at The University of Alabama School of Law and is a frequent speaker and lecturer for legal associations and conferences throughout the state.
