Mr. Broughton attended Western State University College of Law and was awarded his Juris Doctor in 1977. Prior to joining Hammerschmidt Broughton Law Corporation in 2010, Mr. Broughton spent nearly 15 years as a criminal defense attorney for an area firm providing representation for indigent defendants. His work with the Northern California Innocence Project helped attain the reversal of a murder conviction of a 17-year-old client. Often asked to share his experiences before groups of fellow professionals, Mr. Broughton also helps to mentor law students by leading classes on criminal trial practice and preparation at San Joaquin College of Law. The co-chair of the Criminal Law Section of the Fresno County Bar Association, he has also given back to his community through his active involvement with Leadership Fresno, a program sponsored by the Fresno Chamber of Commerce.
