Matthew D. Easton is a partner with Easton & Easton, LLP, located in Costa Mesa, California. For more than 20 years, his firm has focused exclusively on representing clients throughout Southern California who have been harmed by the negligent acts or omissions of others in cases involving aviation, mass transit and motor vehicle accidents, defective products, nursing home abuse, premises liability, medical malpractice and wrongful death.
Prior to joining the firm, Matt was awarded a full scholarship to attend Whittier Law School, where he served as Chief Justice for the Moot Court Honors Board and served on both the Trial Advocacy Honors Board and Whittier Law Review before receiving his Juris Doctor magna cum laude in 2009.
In the years since then, Matt has become a central figure at Easton & Easton, representing hundreds of plaintiffs and litigating cases against the State of California, numerous cities, numerous school districts, and countless large corporate entities and other defendants. As a result of his litigation successes in recent years, Matt has been selected each year since 2014 for the National Trial Lawyers Top 40 Under 40 in California and as a Southern California Super Lawyers Rising Star, which is an honor given to only 2.5% of attorneys under the age of 40. In 2016, Matt was selected by Super Lawyers among the Up-and-Coming Top 100 in Southern California and Up-and-Coming Top 25 in Orange County. In addition, Matt has been selected each year since 2015 among the "10 Best" Personal Injury Attorneys in California by AIOPIA and received the prestigious AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbel. In 2015, Matt also began teaching a class on Trial Technology at Whittier Law School as an Adjunct Professor to help prepare the next great litigators of Southern California.
While his litigation experience and trial technology skills ensure that he is always prepared and ready to take a case to trial if that is what is necessary to obtain just compensation for his clients, Matt has also used his negotiating acumen to arrive at numerous very favorable settlements prior to entering the courtroom. Among his recent successes are a settlement of $3 million for a lane splitting motorcycle accident, $2.75 million for the wrongful death of an unmarried 55-year-old man with no economic losses, $2 million for a man injured in a fall from scaffolding, $1.3 million for a woman who was rear-ended by a drunk driver trying to evade the police, $1.24 million for a woman whose breast reconstruction incision ruptured after a T-bone auto collision, $350,000 for a slip-and-fall at a big box chain store, and a confidential amount for a defective product action involving The Walt Disney Company.
Believing in helping others, Matt spent two years in Mexico City on a mission for his church, during which he became fluent in Spanish and developed a love for the people and culture of the Hispanic community. An avid outdoor enthusiast, he enjoys camping, rock climbing, skiing, wakeboarding, waterskiiing, mountain biking, golf, volleyball, basketball, and tennis.
Matt is happily married to Rachel Easton, a talented author, and they have two beautiful boys, Ronan and Liam.
