Attorney Profile

Michael Maroko is a co-founder of Allred, Maroko & Goldberg, located in Los Angeles, California. He focuses his litigation practice on employment law, civil rights, personal injury and family law, representing clients throughout the Los Angeles area and around the country at both the trial and appellate levels in a variety of matters involving discrimination, wrongful termination, same-sex marriages and sexual harassment.

Mr. Maroko received a Bachelor of Arts summa cum laude in 1971 from the University of California, Los Angeles. He then went on to attend Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, and was awarded his Juris Doctor with honors in 1974. After his graduation from law school, Mr. Maroko was an associate at a Los Angeles law firm before co-founding Allred, Maroko & Goldberg in 1976. Admitted to practice in California, he is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit. A member of the American and Los Angeles County bar associations, and the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers, Mr. Maroko is listed in The Best Lawyers in America* and has been given an AV Preeminent rating by Martindale-Hubbell.**

During his lengthy career, Mr. Maroko has represented clients in numerous well-publicized and landmark cases. He was the lead counsel representing a client before the Supreme Court of California who successfully challenged the state law that recognized only heterosexual marriages, and he was the lead counsel in the case that challenged the constitutionality of Proposition 8, an amendment to California's constitution banning same-sex marriages. Another of Mr. Maroko's cases established important guidelines for child custody relocation orders, and he served as lead counsel in an employment discrimination case brought under the Unruh Civil Rights Act that set a precedent involving exhaustion of remedies.
