Anson H. Asbury is the founder and managing partner of the Asbury Law Firm. Anson represents clients in federal and international tax controversies, complex tax litigation, criminal tax investigations and criminal tax litigation.
Anson is a Fellow of both the American College of Tax Counsel and the American Bar Foundation. He is recognized by Chambers USA and the Legal 500 for his expertise in Tax Litigation. He is rated among the Best Lawyers in America for tax law. He is the recipient of an AV Preeminent peer-review rating* through Martindale-Hubbell and a perfect 10.0 "Superb" peer-review rating through Avvo.
Anson is a nationally recognized speaker and has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, on Forbes.com, in the BNA Daily Tax Report, and in Tax Analysts Tax Notes Today. He has written on topics ranging from conservation easement donations to corporate tax reporting requirements for publications such as the Tax Notes Federal, the Journal of Accountancy, the Federal Lawyer, and the BNA Tax Management Memorandum. He is the co-host of Tax Talk with Art and Anson, a video podcast of the Georgia Society of CPAs.
He is a former Chair of the Atlanta Bar Association Tax Law Section, a Barrister in the American Inns of Court at the U.S. Tax Court, and an active member of the ABA Section on Taxation's Administrative Practice and Court Practice and Procedure Committees. A retired officer in the U.S. Army Reserve, Anson was a tax professor at the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Legal Center and School. Anson also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Joseph Gale of the United States Tax Court.
Anson received his Bachelor of Arts from Villanova University in 1992, his Juris Doctor from the Pennsylvania State University Dickinson School of Law in 1998, and his LL.M. in taxation (with distinction) from the Georgetown University Law Center in 2003.
Anson is licensed to practice in Georgia, New York, and Pennsylvania. He is also admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, the U.S. Tax Court, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, the U.S. District Courts for the Middle District of Georgia, the Northern District of Georgia, and the Western District of Tennessee, and the Supreme Court of Georgia.
