Benjamin A. Land is a partner at Buchanan & Land, LLP, in Columbus, Georgia. With more than 20 years of experience, he concentrates his civil litigation practice primarily on personal injury and nursing home negligence claims but also handles cases relating to medical malpractice, fraud, will contests, insurance claims, noncompete covenants, and business and employment disputes. Mr. Land represents clients throughout Georgia and Alabama.
Mr. Land earned his Juris Doctor with highest honors from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1992. While in law school, he served on the Georgia Law Review Editorial Board and was honored with election to the Order of the Coif. Admitted to practice in Georgia and Alabama, Mr. Land is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Middle and Northern Districts of Georgia and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit.
Mr. Land has secured multiple verdicts and settlements in excess of $1 million, including a landmark jury verdict of $6.7 million against a general surgeon for failing to properly diagnose a patient's condition. His other notable cases include a $5.3 million jury verdict in a nursing home negligence case, a $3.4 million recovery in a DUI/dram shop case, and a $1.25 million jury verdict in a nursing home negligence case that ranks as one of the highest nursing home verdicts to be affirmed on appeal in the state of Georgia.
In addition to holding numerous high-profile appointments and memberships, Mr. Land has received multiple honors. The Supreme Court of Georgia appointed him as a special master for state bar disciplinary proceedings, and he has served as a member of the Local Rules Advisory Committee of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia as well as president of the Chattahoochee Bar Association. A member of both the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum, Mr. Land has received Martindale-Hubbell's AV Preeminent* rating.
