Attorney Profile

Troy Hendrick concentrates his practice on trial law – frequently on personal injury accidents of the roadway, defense of crimes of the roadway such as DUI and traffic tickets. He is responsible for the litigation which led to the demise of the unconstitutional DeKalb Recorder's Court. He received a B.A. in Journalism from UNC Chapel Hill, following with a J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law. In 2003-2004, he prosecuted DUI and other cases for Dekalb County, GA, before entering private practice. He is a member of the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the National College for DUI Defense and was named a member of Georgia's Legal Elite each year since 2012 by his peers in the practice. He is the recipient of the 2015 "President's Commitment to Justice" Award by the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers for his efforts to bring about the demise of the unconstitutional DeKalb Recorder's Court, and is considered to be one of the State of Georgia's foremost traffic law experts. After college Troy used his journalism degree to write for a motorcycle travel magazine, where he logged several hundred thousand miles on the roadway. His legal practice is informed by this experience--by interactions with law enforcement and through an understanding of just how devastating a motor vehicle accident can be.

  • A prestigious award given to only three lawyers by the college of criminal defense lawyers in Georgia, it was awarded to Troy Hendrick for prevailing in litigation against the District Attorney's Office in Dekalb County, Georgia. The litigation ultimately resulted in the dismantling of the entire DeKalb County Recorders Court. Troy single-handedly prevailed against powerful governemnt forces, and then spearheaded the effort to re-create the county court as a new division of the State Court system through state legislation. Troy met on multiple occassions with the legislators responsible for drafting this legislation, as well as the State Court judges who would inherit the successor court. In this way, he helped steer the legislation throughout the process so that the citizens of DeKalb County could feel confident that minor violations such as traffic cases would be handled fairly. None of this would have been possible without first having prevailed in the underlying litigation against the District Attorney., GACDL President's Commitment to Justice Award, Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, 2015
