John J. Scroggin has been practicing business, tax and estate planning law in Atlanta for 38 years. He has devoted his career to handling tax planning, estate planning, probate, business representations, business succession and sales of businesses in Georgia. His practice extends though out Georgia and Florida.
Mr. Scroggin holds a B.S.B.A. in accounting, a juris doctorate and a Master of Laws in Taxation (LL.M.) from the University of Florida. He has taught tax law at the University of Florida Law School and College of Business. He was a CPA with Arthur Andersen's nationwide estate planning group.
Mr. Scroggin is a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Florida Levin College of Law and is a Founding Member of the University of Florida Tax Institute Board of Trustees.
From 2006-2011, Mr. Scroggin served as Founding Editor-in-Chief of the NAEPC Journal of Estate and Tax Planning, one of the largest circulation estate planning journals in the country. Mr. Scroggin was co-editor of Commerce Clearing House's Journal of Practical Estate Planning from 2004 through 2006.
John Scroggin has been rated "AV" by Martindale Hubbell since 1990. He has a 10 out of 10 AVVO ranking and has been named a Nationally Accredited Estate Planner by the National Association of Estate Planners and Councils.
Mr. Scroggin is known for his ability to convert complex technical information into practical, usable forms. He has authored more than 250 articles and columns, as well as various books on business matters, tax planning and estate planning. He has spoken to audiences across the nation on these issues. Further, Mr. Scroggin had been interviewed on television, radio and the Internet, and he has been extensively quoted in various newspapers, magazines and other sources.
The firm provides estate planning, probate and post-mortem tax planning services in the metro Atlanta counties of Fulton, Cobb, Gwinnett, DeKalb, Forsyth, and Cherokee.
Jeff works out of a 1889 house in the heart of the Roswell Historic District. The building contains one of the largest collections of tax and IRS memorabilia in the United States. The collection was featured in a front page article in the Wall Street Journal on April 15, 2015.
