After graduating from Drake University in 1966 with a Bachelor of Arts in political science and history, Mr. Yavitz went on to attend the University of Illinois College of Law. From there, he earned his Juris Doctor with honors in 1969.

With more than 40 years of experience, Mr. Yavitz understands the challenges that family law cases can carry, and he strives to help his clients and their families achieve positive resolutions to their legal issues. While it is his goal to reach agreements amicably, Mr. Yavitz will aggressively advocate for his clients' rights if the other side will not budge. Mr. Yavitz is active in the legal community. He is a member of the American Bar Association's Section of Family Law and is a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. He currently serves as chair of the Illinois State Bar Association's Family Law Section and is a member of The Chicago Bar Association's family law committee. He has authored a number of works on topics relating to the area of family law, including one that was published in the Illinois Bar Journal. Additionally, Mr. Yavitz has taught several seminars and classes on family law subjects, including drafting marital settlement agreements, negotiating property issues in divorce and prenuptial agreements.
