Having close ties to the labor community, Matthew Gannon focuses his practice on representing people in Cook County and Chicago, Illinois, in personal injury cases such as trucking and car accidents, construction site negligence and workers’ compensation. As a third-generation union member, he operated heavy equipment in his role as an engineer prior to joining the Healy Scanlon Law Firm.
Mr. Gannon has had an impressive career, obtaining millions of dollars on behalf of clients. In one notable case, an insurance company initially refused to reach a settlement. The matter went to trial – Mr. Gannon’s first – where he secured more than $250,000 for the injured victim. He is known for his fierce advocacy in settlements and in negotiations. Mr. Gannon has also brought a number of cases before the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission. For his achievements, Mr. Gannon has been recognized by Leading Lawyers.
Admitted to practice in Illinois, Mr. Gannon is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, The Chicago Bar Association and the Workers’ Compensation Lawyers Association. He serves on the board of advocates for the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association.
He attended Merrimack College on a football scholarship, earning an undergraduate degree there before receiving a law degree from The John Marshall Law School. While in law school, Mr. Gannon had notable success in the advanced trial advocacy program.
Sharing his knowledge with others, Mr. Gannon’s writing has been published in the Irish American News and the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association Workers’ Compensation Notebook. He writes primarily about workers’ compensation issues and tort law.
