Michael D. Hills takes pride in providing zealous and efficient criminal defense representation to the residents of Southwest Michigan who are being investigated, arrested or charged with crimes. He is a partner at Hills at Law, P.C., located in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He started working there in 1999, and his hiring helped shape the firm into the successful law business it is today.
Mr. Hills completed his B.A. in 1995 with honors from Southern Illinois University. He pursued his legal studies at Michigan State University and graduated cum laude in 1998. He worked as a law clerk for Allegan County, Michigan Circuit Court Judge Harry A. Beach after completing his education. He started his own law firm in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the following year. He actively practices in the state courts of Michigan, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court
Mr. Hills has vast knowledge of every facet of the criminal justice system. Since his very first client, he has focused exclusively on criminal defense. He has represented clients facing state and federal crimes ranging from murder to minors in possession of alcohol, providing aggressive advocacy from the initial investigation to the final appeals of their cases.
As a part of devoting significant time and effort to the affairs of his legal community, Mr. Hills served as the former board member and president of the Kalamazoo County Bar Association and the president of the Kalamazoo County Trial Lawyers Association. He is also a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, the Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan and the National Association of Drug Court Professionals. Additionally, he functions as a defense adviser and counsel for the Kalamazoo County Drug Treatment Court.
A recipient of several awards and accolades, Mr. Hills was recognized among the Top 100 Trial Attorneys by The National Trial Lawyers. Moreover, he has received several five-star reviews along with a 10 out of 10 rating on Avvo for his excellent client services.
