Peter M. O'Mara is the founder of The O’Mara Law Firm located in Little Silver, New Jersey. Focusing his practice exclusively on criminal defense, he represents clients from Monmouth County and surrounding areas who have been charged with serious offenses including driving while intoxicated, drug possession and distribution, assault and other violent crimes, Internet fraud and sex crimes, and juvenile offenses. Prior to entering private practice in 1993, Mr. O'Mara spent one year as a legal assistant in the appellate division of the Office of the Monmouth County Prosecutor, which experience has enriched his criminal defense practice.
A 1989 graduate of Villanova University, where he received a bachelor's degree in political science, Mr. O’Mara earned his Juris Doctor in 1992 from The Pennsylvania State University Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. While in law school, he served as an intern with the Dauphin County District Attorney. Admitted to practice in New Jersey since 1993, Mr. O'Mara is highly regarded by his peers. A member of The National Trial Lawyers: Top 100, he has received a 10.0 "Superb" rating from Avvo and has been appointed to the District IX Ethics Committee of the Supreme Court of New Jersey.
Frequently called upon to give presentations on DWI defense, Mr. O'Mara continues to stay current on criminal defense matters through his active participation in several professional organizations. A founding member of the National College for DUI Defense, Inc., he is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the American Association for Justice and the National District Attorneys Association. Mr. O'Mara's pro bono activities have included his service as chairman of the Legal Defense Committee of the Surfers' Environmental Alliance, an organization committed to the preservation of the quality of the marine environment.
