Ms. Carpenter received her Bachelor of Arts in economics from the University of Colorado Boulder in 1990. From 1990 until 1992, she served as the legislative assistant for Sen. Pete V. Domenici in Washington, D.C. She received her Juris Doctor from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 1995. She has been with McGinn, Carpenter, Montoya & Love, P.A., since 1995.

Ms. Carpenter is a member of the American Association for Justice, the New Mexico Trial Lawyers Association, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the New Mexico Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. For the NMTLA, she has served as a member of the board of directors, treasurer and columnist for the NMTLA Journal. She was also a member of the Judicial Nominating Commission and Rules Committee.

Ms. Carpenter was an adjunct professor at the University of New Mexico Law School from 2003 to 2005. Since 1999, she has been a regular speaker at continuing legal education seminars with an emphasis on evidence, visual communication, and visual aids.
