Molly E. Schmidt-Nowara is a founding partner of the firm Garcia Ives Nowara in Albuquerque, New Mexico. An experienced litigator, she represents individuals in Albuquerque and throughout New Mexico who have been charged with violent and white collar crimes, drug possession and trafficking, domestic violence, driving under the influence and health care abuse. A native of Albuquerque, Ms. Schmidt-Nowara also represents medical, legal and other professionals in disciplinary hearings and security clearance proceedings.

A 1997 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in political science and government, Ms. Schmidt-Nowara attended the University of New Mexico School of Law, where she was awarded her Juris Doctor magna cum laude in 2001, and was selected to Order of the Coif, the honorary legal scholastic society. After graduation from law school, she worked as a public defender in the District of Columbia and then in Santa Fe before entering private practice. Admitted to practice in New Mexico, Ms. Schmidt-Nowara is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit.

A frequent speaker at continuing legal education conferences in New Mexico and around the country, Ms. Schmidt also shares her experiences with aspiring attorneys as an adjunct professor at the University of New Mexico School of Law, where she has taught since 2009. She stays informed of current developments in her field through her membership in several professional organizations, including the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, New Mexico Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and the New Mexico Women's Bar Association. Recognizing the importance of giving back to both her profession and her community, Ms. Schmidt-Nowara is a Commissioner for the New Mexico Public Defender Commission, a board member of the New Mexico Innocence and Justice Project and volunteers at Animal Humane New Mexico.
