The founder of Scott Legal, P.C., Ian E. Scott focuses his practice on immigration and business law. The immigratoin focus is primamrily on investor visas including E-2, L-1 and EB-5 visas. The businses focus is on helping entrepreneurs and start-ups acheive their busienss goals. Mr. Scott has extensive experience in a wide range of complex legal issues, including business immigration, new business entity setup, contract review and negotiation, entrepreneurial and investor support and matters involving both new and established businesses. Mr. Scott accepts clients in New York and New Jersey, as well as throughout the country and world for immigration matters.
Mr. Scott obtained a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) from the University of Toronto, where he was an Ontario Graduate Scholar. He is also a Certified Public Accountant (C.P.A.) and he earned his Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School. While at Harvard Law School, he served as primary editor for the Harvard Human Rights Journal. He is admitted to practice law in New York and New Jersey. Mr. Scott gained experience at a top Wall Street law firm, Cleary Gottlieb, before founding Scott Legal, P.C. He is the Managing Attorney and manages a team of 7 lawyers and staff. His prior work as an Investment Banker and as a C.P.A. have given him more than 10 years of experience in finance and banking transactional matters.
Having a strong desire to assist others in the community, Mr. Scott has written articles for numerous publications, including the William & Mary Business Law Review, Bloomberg Law, Forbes, the Lawyerist, the New York State Bar Association, Barron’s and Above the Law. He also wrote the book, Law School Lowdown: Secrets of Success from the Application Process to Landing the First Job (Barrons Publishing). Mr. Scott will speak on an AILA E-2 panel at their national conference in June.
Mr. Scott has been an active member of numerous bars and associations, including the New York State Bar Association, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the American Bar Association, the American Immigration Lawyers Association and Chartered Professional Accountants Canada. Mr. Scott speaks English and Spanish.
