James L. Riotto, the founder of his own law firm, brings an extensive background in law enforcement and prosecution to his criminal defense practice for clients in Rochester, New York, and throughout the state. Mr. Riotto's practice is entirely focused in the area of criminal law. His representative matters include those involving DWI, white collar crime, traffic violations, drug violations, sex offenses and gun charges.
Before attending law school, Mr. Riotto first completed his undergraduate degree at the State University of New York at Cortland. He then attended the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center and graduated with honors. Mr. Riotto first worked as an officer with the Federal Bureau of Prisons and then with the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision before obtaining his certification as a New York state police officer. He became a New York state trooper in 2000, amassing several years of experience investigating crimes before deciding to go to law school.
Mr. Riotto completed his Juris Doctor at the Albany Law School. Before deciding to go into criminal defense work, he worked for the criminal prosecutions bureau of the New York State Attorney General's Office and then for the Albany County District Attorney's Office, prosecuting cases in the office's major offenses bureau.
A dedicated criminal defense lawyer, Mr. Riotto is able to use his knowledge from law enforcement and prosecution to understand how the state builds its cases.
