After receiving a degree in economics in 1993 from East Carolina University, Mr. Speaks attended the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University, where he earned his Juris Doctor and also received the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers Award for excellence in trial advocacy. While in law school, he gained experience as a law clerk for the U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of North Carolina and interned with the district attorney's office for the Fifth Judicial District in Wilmington.
Mr. Speaks frequently lectures at seminars for the North Carolina Bar Association and other organizations, and has authored several articles and legal guidebooks, including "Busted by the Federal Authorities," "The North Carolina Auto Injury Book" and "The Ten Commandments of Criminal Court." Mr. Speaks strives to keep his trial skills at their peak by appearing in court nearly every day.
