Woody White is a senior partner with Woody White Law PLLC, a general practice, criminal and personal injury law firm in Wilmington, North Carolina. Since 1994, Mr. White has focused on representing defendants charged with serious criminal offenses, as well as plaintiffs who have been victims of negligence or abusive conduct. He handles cases involving motor vehicle accidents, damages against drunk drivers, bicycle accidents, as well as those charged with criminal offenses in either state or federal court.
Among his many accomplishments, Mr. White is a former North Carolina state senator, having been appointed by the governor of North Carolina to serve in the legislature in 2004. He has twice been recognized by Business North Carolina magazine as a member of its “LEGAL ELITE”, winning the award in 2007 and 2010.
In 2012, Woody was elected as a New Hanover County Commissioner, receiving the most votes in a 6 way contested election. At his first meeting, he was unanimously selected by his fellow commissioners as Chairman of the New Hanover Board of Commissioners. Woody also represents the County on the Cape Fear Communtity College Board, and other the TAC/MPO board.
As a Board Certified Specialist in State and Federal Criminal Law, Mr. White has extensive courtroom experience and has won numerous jury trials. He has litigated countless suppression motions and bond hearings and has represented thousands of defendants charged with violent crimes, white collar offenses, drug offenses, sexual offenses and literally everything in between. He is an active member of the North Carolina Bar Association and the National Criminal Defense Attorneys Association, and he has served extensively on local boards in the Wilmington community.
Mr. White is a lifelong resident of Southeastern North Carolina and received his law degree from the University of Nebraska. He is licensed to practice before the state bar of North Carolina, the Eastern District of the U.S. District Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit and was sworn in to the United States Supreme Court by the late Chief Justice William Rehnquist.
