Shea Callahan is a co-founder of Callahan & Binkley, located in Cookeville, Tennessee. Focusing his practice on personal injury and wrongful death litigation, his particular emphasis is on providing representation to area clients who have been harmed by the negligence of health care practitioners, hospitals and other medical facilities.
As an undergraduate, Mr. Callahan attended Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville. He then spent several years working in the medical field, and this gave him both empathy for people who have been harmed by medical professional negligence as well as the desire to become an attorney and represent patients and their families. As a result, Mr. Callahan enrolled at Vanderbilt University School of Law in nearby Nashville and was awarded his Juris Doctor in 2010. He is admitted to practice before all Tennessee state courts.
After graduation from law school, Mr. Callahan spent six years as an associate with a Cookeville civil litigation firm, where he was involved in complex medical malpractice cases, including a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of the surviving spouse of a woman who died from internal bleeding when a surgeon severed an artery in her abdomen. The woman was undergoing a procedure that involved a disc repair resulting from an injury that she had suffered while working as a paramedic. The $20 million lawsuit was filed against the surgical center and named two doctors and a nurse as additional defendants. A year after her death, Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam signed into law legislation named after the decedent that requires state high school students to be trained in CPR.
