Attorney Profile

Katharine Maddox has focused her practice on family law for her entire career. The co-founder of Falls Church, Virginia-based Maddox & Gerock, she represents clients in the northern part of the state as well as in the District of Columbia metropolitan area who are ending their marriages and who need assistance with complex property division, child custody and visitation, alimony and child support. In many cases, she will recommend mediation, collaborative law or arbitration as alternatives to litigation. Ms. Maddox also helps victims of domestic violence obtain protective orders.

Raised in Virginia, Ms. Maddox attended the University of Virginia and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in psychology in 2006. She then pursued her legal studies at The George Washington University Law School and received her Juris Doctor with honors in 2001. While there, Ms. Maddox was the chair of the school's Committee on Academic Integrity. Admitted to practice before all Virginia state courts, she has received a 10.0 "superb" peer review rating through Avvo.

Ms. Maddox lived in Italy from 2006 to 2008, and that was one factor in her developing a keen interest in international family law matters. She continues to stay abreast of current developments in that area as a fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers. Ms. Maddox has delivered several presentations to members of the USA Chapter of that organization, including two on the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction. She has had articles on family law topics published in legal journals. Ms. Maddox is also a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and an active participant in the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association and the Fairfax Bar Association.
