A shareholder of Barnes & Diehl, P.C., Michael HuYoung divides his practice between criminal defense and family law matters. Located in Richmond, Virginia, his clients come from the greater Richmond-Petersburg metropolitan area. In his criminal defense practice, Mr. HuYoung represents people who have been charged with misdemeanors or felonies that have included domestic violence, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, fraud, weapons violations, drug possession and distribution, assault, sex crimes and murder.
Mr. HuYoung's family law experience is largely centered around divorce and its attendant issues such as the equitable distribution of marital assets and debts, child custody and visitation, and alimony and child support. He has had numerous articles published on topics related to his practice areas, and he is frequently asked to deliver presentations on a variety of subjects, including jury selection and defending child pornography charges. Mr. HuYoung has received numerous accolades from his fellow professionals for the quality of his work and his high degree of ethics. Majoring in government and foreign affairs, Mr. HuYoung received a Bachelor of Arts with distinction from the University of Virginia in 1978. He then went on to attend the University of Richmond School of Law and was awarded his Juris Doctor in 1982. Admitted to practice in Virginia, Mr. HuYoung is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States. His professional affiliations have included the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, Virginia Bar Association, Virginia Law Foundation, Virginia Criminal Justice Conference, and the Asian Pacific American Bar Association.
