Attorney Profile

Having more than 25 years of legal experience, Annesley H. DeGaris focuses his practice on personal injury and product liability cases, serving clients throughout the nation. The recipient of multiple awards and honors, Mr. DeGaris has received the highest possible rating of AV Preeminent* from Martindale-Hubbell. He is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and also the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum. He and his firm have been recognized in Best Lawyers. In 2013 and again in 2016 he was recognized as Lawyer of the Year Class Action/Mass Torts by Best Lawyers.

After graduating magna cum laude from Samford University with a Bachelor of Science in public administration in 1985, Mr. DeGaris went on to attend the Cumberland School of Law. He received his Juris Doctor from there in 1988, graduating magna cum laude. After law school Mr. DeGaris was the recipient of a Rotary Foundation Scholarship and earned a Master of Laws from the University of Melbourne Law School in Melbourne, Australia.

Whether through negotiation, mediation or litigation, Mr. DeGaris aggressively advocates on behalf of people injured due to dangerous drugs or products, defective medical devices, environmental disasters and catastrophic accidents. He also handles class actions and mass torts, facing off with large corporations to hold them accountable for their actions. Mr. DeGaris knows that insurance carriers, pharmaceutical companies and others who are responsible for causing personal injuries are often focused on protecting their bottom line, rather than providing fair compensation for victims. He works with experts, takes depositions, files motions and attends hearings in an effort to help maximize his clients' financial recoveries.

Beyond his work in the courtroom, Mr. DeGaris is actively involved in the legal community. He is a member of the Alabama Association for Justice, the Alabama State Bar Association; the Alabama Civil Justice Foundation; the American Association for Justice; the Birmingham Bar Association; and is on the Board of Governors for the Southern Trial Lawyers Association. He has served as an adjunct law professor at several law schools and is a frequent presenter at national legal conventions.  Furthermore, he frequently publishes on varied legal topics.  Mr. DeGaris has published papers in journals ranging from West's Federal Rules Decisions to the University of Tasmania Law Review.
