Edward A. Merrell, III

Attorney Edward A. Merrell III is the managing partner of Merrell Law Firm, LLC, in Birmingham, Alabama. Mr. Merrell practices criminal law as well as civil litigation, handling matters in the areas of contracts, family law and insurance law. He serves clients in Hoover and the Birmingham, Alabama region including Jefferson, Shelby and St Clair Counties.  He holds a “Lead Counsel” rating in civil litigation and family law.  Mr. Merrell also enjoys handling Civil Appeals to the Court of Civil Appeals in Montgomery.  In addition, Birmingham magazine named him one of the “top attorneys” in 2018 and the Birmingham Bar Association awarded him the pro bono small firm of the year award in 2016.

In addition to managing his law practice, Mr. Merrell lectures for various classes and seminars. Topics he has spoken on over the years include business formation, the three branches of government and mental health in justice.

Active in various professional organizations, Mr. Merrell is a member of the Alabama State Bar, the Alabama Association for Justice and the American Bar Association. He also belongs to the Birmingham Bar Association and is a member of the association’s crisis relief committee. 

Mr. Merrell earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Alabama. He received his law degree from Birmingham School of Law. While attending law school, he served as treasurer of law school’s honor society. He obtained his license to practice law in 2013, which made him eligible to appear before all Alabama state courts.
