  • Electrocution – Premises LiabilityFirm represented client who was seriously injured after coming into contact with high voltage electrical equipment which lacked appropriate safety devices and warnings. Client suffered lifelong disabling injury. Settlement was confidential.
  • Overhead Power Line Electrocution Product LiabilityFirm represented a young father who was seriously injured when industrial equipment contacted an overhead power line. Firm prevailed in a products liability case against the manufacturer of the industrial equipment for failure to provide for safety of worker on the ground. Settlement was confidential.
  • Dust ExplosionClient worked in an industrial setting where a silo exploded causing severe injury and blindness. Firm was able to establish that a third-party was liable for the dust explosion, and that the plaintiff was blinded by the negligence of his healthcare provider for failing to prevent the skin around his eyes from retracting during a prolonged, medically induced coma. As a result of litigation against the physician, the hospital changed its policy requiring that all burn patients have gel pads placed on their eyes to prevent dryness, deterioration and blindness.
  • Propane explosionAs a result of a propane explosion, one person was killed and two were seriously injured due to a defective gas valve adaptor routinely used propane tanks. The adaptor was sold as a “universal” adaptor, but once attached to the propane tank, it collapsed the vavle causing an uncontrolled release of propane and a force 2 explosion. The firm worked with numerous experts around the country to establish liability. Settlement was confidential.
  • Furnace explosionA furnace exploded in a foundry causing severe injuries to our client who suffered in an ICU for nine months before his death. Firm established that the furnace was defective, and that it did not have a necessary safety device which could have prevented the accident. Settlement was confidential.
  • Exploding Gas CanClient was severely burned when a defective gas can exploded as he walked past a burn barrel on his property. Firm was able to establish that the gas can was defective, and had been known to be defective for many years, yet manufacturer failed to provide safety device costing approximately $0.05. Client was seriously injured and scarred, and the firm employed a team of experts in order to establish liability and recovery. Settlement was confidential.
  • Natural Gas Explosion  The client and her children were severely burned in an explosion caused by a cracked valve in an underground natural gas system. Firm was able to establish that the system had not been properly inspected, and that complaints about gas odor had not been properly followed up on. The explosion caused severe and permanent scarring, extensive periods of recuperation, and years of rehabilitation. Settlement was confidential.
  • Natural Gas Explosion Client was seriously and permanently injured as a result of a natural gas explosion which caused an extensive hospitalization, multiple surgeries, and rehabilitation over a period of years. The firm discovered several other failures involving the deterioration of underground cast iron pipe, and worked with experts from across the country to establish liability. The firm worked with a number of experts, including experts in migration of gas, proper maintenance and inspection of underground pipe, and the specific phenomenon of graphitization in older cast iron pipes. Settlement was confidential.
  • Propane Explosion – Travel TrailerA married couple were seriously burned in a propane explosion in their recreational vehicle caused by a defective stove which permitted a dangerous accumulation of propane. These accidents are not uncommon and typically occur in the mornings after propane has leaked into the living quarters overnight. A phenomenon known as odor fade desensitizes the olfactory so that the mercaptan used to odorize propane can no longer be detected. Some people are not able to smell mercaptan even if they approach the leak with a fresh nose. Similarly, smokers and persons with sinus infections are often unable to detect the propane, which is invisible. Certain conditions in storage tanks can also strip the odorant making it completely undetectable. Upon waking up, the wife attempted to cook breakfast when a serious explosion occurred, resulting in lengthy hospitalizations, numerous surgeries, and skin grafting over years of rehabilitation and recovery. The firm worked with a number of experts to model the explosion, scientifically test the dangers of the stove, and identify a safer, alternative design that was already available on the market at the time. The case was settled for a confidential sum.
