After earning a Bachelor of Science from Florida State University, Ms. Gathings obtained her Juris Doctor in 1978 from Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law, where she was editor of the American Journal of Trial Advocacy. A member of the American Bar Association, Alabama State Bar, Florida State Bar, Birmingham Bar Foundation, Birmingham Bar Association, Women’s Section of the Birmingham Bar Association, Alabama Alternative Dispute Resolution Section and officer, Alabama Woman Lawyers, Family Law Section Alabama Bar.
Ms. Gathings is admitted to practice in Florida and Alabama and before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Alabama, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Alabama, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. Throughout her career, she has had numerous settlements, verdicts and judgments over $1 million.
In 2017 Ms. Gathings was given the Pro Bono Service Award by the Alabama Access to Justice Commission.
