Ms. Fonteneau chose her practice area as employment law since she is driven by her passion to help employees fight for their rights and claim benefits that are rightfully theirs, in order to prevent their exploitation. 

Born in Detroit, Ms. Fonteneau spent a part of her childhood in Hawaii and Virginia. Motivated by her personal experience of being mistreated at work, she strives to ensure that the employers at fault are brought to justice. Even before founding her own law firm, she was the first public defender of Jefferson County, Alabama, and before that, she was an employee advocate for more than 12 years. 

At The University of Virginia, Ms. Fonteneau completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in government in 1998. Later, she graduated with a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Georgia School of Law in 2005, where she was active in the Student Bar Association and the Joseph Henry Lumpkin Inn of Court, and was an American Bar Association Law Student Liaison to Commission on Women in the Profession. She has secured licenses to practice in Alabama, Georgia and Virginia. 

In her 18-plus years of practice, Ms. Fonteneau has received several recognitions and awards for her professional client service that has helped a lot of employees claim their rights. She has been rated AV Preeminent* through Martindale-Hubbell and has been rated with a perfect score of 10.0 on Avvo. In addition, she has also been named to the University of Georgia’s Top 40 Under 40 list.

Along with being a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Alabama State Bar, Ms. Fonteneau is also a board member of the Alabama Civil Justice Foundation and is the president of the American Civil Liberties Union of Alabama. She also holds memberships in the Birmingham Bar Association, the National Employment Lawyers Association, the American Association for Justice and the Alabama Association for Justice.
