Owen Mattox

At Alexander Shunnarah Trial Attorneys in Birmingham, Alabama, attorney Owen Mattox has built a practice centered on personal injury law, with particular focus on medical malpractice, premises liability and motor vehicle accident cases. Since 2022, he has represented injured Alabamians seeking accountability and fair compensation from those responsible for their harm.

What distinguishes Mr. Mattox's approach is the vantage point he brings from the other side of the courtroom. Before advocating for plaintiffs, he spent years as a civil defense attorney, defending doctors, hospitals, nursing homes, automotive manufacturers, business owners and insurance companies against claims spanning medical malpractice, products liability, premises liability and general negligence. That background gave him an insider's understanding of defense strategy – knowledge he now applies to anticipate opposing counsel's tactics and construct more resilient cases on behalf of his clients.

Mr. Mattox's legal foundation was laid at Samford University Cumberland School of Law, where he graduated in the top 15% of his class in 2022. During law school, he served as articles editor for the American Journal of Trial Advocacy, one of Cumberland's two scholarly legal publications, and authored a piece examining sentencing considerations in *Tapia v. United States*, published in the journal's 44th volume. 

Additionally, Mr. Mattox trained within Cumberland's nationally acclaimed trial advocacy program, learning courtroom technique directly from some of Alabama's most accomplished trial lawyers. Today, he gives back to that program as an assistant coach for Cumberland's National Trial Team, mentoring the next generation of advocates.

Licensed by the Alabama State Bar since 2022, Mr. Mattox is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Alabama.
