Susan Nettles Han is a seasoned civil litigator and founding partner of Nettles Han Law, LLC, in Birmingham, Alabama. Since earning her J.D. from Cumberland School of Law in 2006, she has devoted her practice to complex labor and employment disputes, real property controversies, and trust and estate litigation.
Ms. Han believes in keeping clients fully apprised at every stage and strives to secure favorable outcomes – whether through negotiated resolution or in the courtroom – while managing matters with efficiency and discipline. She is also a trained and registered mediator for civil litigation.
In the realm of real estate law, Ms. Han represents commercial and private property owners, financial institutions, and title insurers in actions involving reformation, boundary disputes, adverse possession, easements, encroachments, quiet-title suits and trespass claims.
On the employment side, Ms. Han advocates for both employers and individuals in trials, and appellate proceedings under federal statutes such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Civil Rights Act of 1991, Sections 1981, 1983 and 1985 of Title 42 U.S.C., the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act – as well as under Alabama’s own employment, age-discrimination and workers’-compensation laws, and related state-law torts.
Before establishing her boutique practice, Ms. Han spent a decade at Balch & Bingham, LLP, where she honed her expertise in both the Labor & Employment and Litigation sections. A graduate of McGill University (B.A., 1996) and The University of Texas at Austin (M.M.), she combines a strong academic foundation with more than fifteen years of courtroom and negotiation experience.
Beyond her legal practice, Ms. Han has held leadership roles in professional organizations and her community. She served as chair of the Women Lawyers Section of the Birmingham Bar Association and sat on its executive committee. She currently serves on the board of the Solo/Small Firm Section of the Alabama State Bar, participates on the unauthorized practice of law committee, the Health and Wellness Task Force, and has been a board member of the Virginia Samford Theatre since 2007 – where she also contributes as a member of its executive committee.
