Attorney Profile

The founder of the Drake Law Firm, Whit Drake centers his practice primarily on personal injury and wrongful death litigation. Based in Birmingham, he provides representation to clients throughout the northern half of Alabama, the state where he was born and raised. Mr. Drake majored in general studies and history at the University of Alabama, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in 1986. He remained in Tuscaloosa for his legal education at the University of Alabama School of Law, graduating with his Juris Doctor in 1989.

Mr. Drake assists people who have suffered significant harm due to the negligent acts or omissions of other parties, and he has obtained well over $100 million on their behalf through jury awards as well as through settlements that he has negotiated outside of the courtroom with defendants and their insurance carriers. His cases have included actions based on hospital negligence, defective products, nursing home abuse, premises liability, and motor vehicle crashes. Mr. Drake has also represented people who have been injured in workplace accidents, and he has both helped them obtain their rightful workers’ compensation benefits and, when appropriate, pursued additional relief through personal injury lawsuits when the incident was caused by a non-employer third party.

Mr. Drake’s colleagues have taken note of his successful track record both in and out of the courtroom, as he is AV Preeminent* peer-review rated through Martindale-Hubbell and has a “Superb” rating through Avvo. Admitted to practice in Alabama since 1989, he is additionally admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Alabama and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit.
