Stuart M. Maples

As a partner of Thompson Burton PLLC, located in Huntsville, Alabama, Stuart M. Maples focuses his practice primarily on Chapter 11 bankruptcy matters. Drawing on decades of legal experience, he represents businesses and individuals in complex bankruptcy proceedings while also advising clients on a broad range of commercial and business-related issues. 

Mr. Maples’ practice includes bankruptcy law, business litigation, trade secret disputes, noncompete agreements, alternative dispute resolution, mediation, business formation and planning, limited liability companies, partnerships, Subchapter S corporations, contracts, business organizations, civil litigation and general litigation.

Throughout his career, Mr. Maples has developed extensive experience guiding clients through challenging financial restructurings and business disputes. His work emphasizes practical solutions for businesses navigating bankruptcy proceedings as well as strategic counsel on corporate governance, commercial transactions and litigation. His broad background enables him to assist clients with both transactional matters and complex courtroom disputes.

Mr. Maples earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of North Alabama in 1982. He went on to receive his Juris Doctor from The University of Alabama School of Law in 1986. That same year, he was admitted to practice in Alabama. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Alabama as well as the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the 6th and 11th Circuits.

An active member of the legal community, Mr. Maples belongs to the Alabama State Bar, the Madison County Bar Association and the American Bankruptcy Institute. He served as president of the Bankruptcy and Commercial Law Section of the Alabama State Bar in 2000, reflecting his longstanding commitment to the practice of bankruptcy law. He is also involved with the Huntsville Madison County Mental Health Center. He has earned an AV Preeminent* peer-review rating through Martindale-Hubbell, the organization's highest distinction.
