While there, he was a member of the Jessup International Law Moot Court, and his team won the SE Regional Championship in 1987. Mr. Slaten also has a Master of Laws in dispute resolution with a concentration in mediation from Pepperdine University School of Law in 2010.

Mr. Slaten holds his license to practice in Texas, Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia, and he is admitted to practice before all U.S. District Courts in Alabama, the Northern District of Texas and the Eastern District of Tennessee as well as before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th and 11th Circuits. He is a member of the Alabama State Bar Association, the Tennessee State Bar, the State Bar of Texas and the American Bar Association, among his other professional affiliations.
