Mara Michaletz

Mara Michaletz is a partner at Birch Horton Bittner & Cherot in Anchorage, Alaska, where she represents businesses, organizations and individuals in a broad range of complex legal matters. Her practice spans numerous areas, including appellate practice, aviation litigation, business torts and commercial litigation, health care industry disputes, insurance coverage, land use law, and professional liability litigation. She also advises clients on regulatory matters such as certificates of need, licensing and ownership transitions, as well as emerging areas like marijuana law and regulation.

With a multifaceted litigation practice, Ms. Michaletz is known for handling high-stakes disputes involving both public and private sector clients. Her work frequently involves complex litigation in state and federal courts, where she provides strategic counsel tailored to each stage of a case, from initial analysis through resolution. She also serves as a mediator, helping parties navigate contentious matters toward efficient and effective outcomes.

Ms. Michaletz earned her Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, from Gustavus Adolphus College in 2002, where she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. She went on to receive her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Minnesota Law School in 2006. During law school, she served as both a staff editor and an outside articles editor for the Journal of Law and Inequality.

Licensed to practice in Alaska in 2008, Ms. Michaletz is authorized to appear before the U.S. District Court for the District of Alaska, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit. She is an active member of the legal community and is involved with the Alaska Bar Association, including its Law Examiners Committee, and Torts and Personal Injury Law Section. She is also a member of the Anchorage Association of Women Lawyers and the Anchorage International Rotary Club.
