Jeremy Pekas

Attorney Jeremy Pekas is the managing partner at the law firm of Pekas Smith, PLLC in Phoenix, Arizona. Mr. Pekas devotes his practice to Social Security Disability law, helping individuals to acquire federal benefits after they have become unable to earn a living due to illness or injury. He has helped thousands of clients at many different levels of the process of requesting Social Security Disability benefits, including initial filings, hearings and appeals.

Mr. Pekas earned his bachelor's degree from Eastern Illinois University, where he studied both Spanish and journalism and graduated with honors. He went on to earn his law degree at Florida Coastal School of Law, graduating magna cum laude.

While he was a law student, Mr. Pekas served as an intern with the Social Security Office of Disability Adjudication and Review (now known as Office of Hearings Operations) in Jacksonville, Florida. There, he developed a passion for helping disabled people through the often confusing and intimidating process of applying for Social Security Disability benefits. He also gained valuable experience and insight into the hearing process for Social Security Disability matters. He has said that observing these hearings, and seeing the difference a good lawyer can make at this point in the process, convinced him to pursue a career in disability law.

Mr. Pekas has been admitted to practice in all Arizona state courts since 2008. He is also licensed to appear before the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He began working for Pekas Smith, PLLC (then known as Caldwell & Ober) in 2007, became a partner at the firm in 2012, and assumed responsibility as managing partner in 2019.

As a student, Mr. Pekas lived for a time and studied in Mexico. He is fluent in English and Spanish.
