Karine Bohbot is a founding partner at Bohbot & Riles. Born in France, she immigrated to the United States with her family as a young child and became a U.S. Citizen.  A University of California, Santa Barbara undergraduate, Karine went on to receive her J.D. from UC Hastings College of Law and has been practicing law since 1998. Karine has successfully represented employees against a wide variety of businesses and government entities, in matters of race, national origin, sexual orientation, pregnancy, age, disability and gender discrimination, cases of sexual and racial harassment, retaliation, whistle-blowing and wrongful termination.

In 2009, Karine was a finalist for the prestigious San Francisco Trial Lawyer of the year award by the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association.  In 2011, she was honored by the City of Lancaster for her work in obtaining a significant verdict in a gender discrimination and hostile work environment case against a nationally known long haul trucking company. Verdicts/Settlements:

  • Bohbot & Riles represented the founder and former chief executive of the FAME charter school in Fremont. As the CEO, she came to believe that the school’s Board of Directors was engaged in illegal activity. She complained about this behavior repeatedly. She was subjected to gender discrimination and retaliation for her complaints. She was ultimately placed on administrative leave and then terminated. Bohbot & Riles filed suit on her behalf and after years of litigation and a lengthy trial of more than two months received a $545,000 verdict from the Jury, including lost wages and emotional distress damages. Additionally, the jury found that that the Board and specifically, the Board President acted with malice in terminating her. This finding led to a confidential settlement of the punitive damages., 2015
  • Bohbot & Riles, PC represented a woman who worked 17 years for her employer. She was injured and took disability leave to heal and recover from surgery. Her employer terminated her employment without offering accommodations or any additional leave. Bohbot & Riles, PC filed suit on her behalf, impaneled a jury, and cross-examined the first witness and the employer ended up agreeing to settle., 2008

  • Bohbot & Riles, PC represented a man and a woman who worked for Woodfin Suites for 12 and 14 years, respectively with no performance issues. While the man was on a medical leave, a new supervisor arrived and instructed the women to terminate the man while he was on leave. She refused and reported the attempted termination up the chain of command. After her refusal, suddenly and for the first time she was written up. Within a short period of time, she was terminated. When the man returned from his medical leave, he was written up for events that happened while he was leave, given no real time to correct the issues and was terminated. Bohbot & Riles, PC filed suit on their behalf and received a 1.2 million verdict from the jury, including lost wages, emotional distress and punitive damages., 2008
  • Bohbot & Riles represented two individuals who were rear ended at approximately 40 miles per hour by a driver who fell asleep at the wheel. Luckily both individuals suffered only soft-tissue injuries to their body. One individual suffered from a minor traumatic brain injury.
