In 2011, Brooks obtained a $7.6 million jury verdict for his client who had suffered a spinal cord injury after her doctors failed to diagnose a tumor on her spine. The award was the largest in Sacramento County's history. Additionally, Brooks has successfully represented individuals in multiple whistleblower lawsuits, including reaching a settlement for $23.5 million on behalf of four whistleblowers. The case involved government fraud claims against one of the world's largest medical device manufacturers.

    Brooks graduated from Stanford University School of Law in 1985, where he was editor-in-chief of the "Stanford Journal of International Law." He was a law clerk to Chief Judge James R. Browning of the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit from 1985 to 1986. Prior to entering law school, he earned a bachelor of arts degree with distinction from the University of California at Berkeley and a master of philosophy degree from Cambridge University in England.
