The founding partner of Hone Maxwell LLP, Aubrey Hone represents clients internationally with a focus in the state of California. Her practice revolves around legal issues related to tax litigation, tax law and tax controversies. This includes the following matters: tax evasion, IRS criminal investigations and prosecutions, sales tax audits, innocent spouse claims, overstated deductions, unreported income and IRS whistleblower claims, fraud investigations, and fraud penalties.

Ms. Hone is admitted to practice in the state of California, and before the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit, the United States District Court for the Northern District of California and the United States Tax Court. With over a decade of experience, she has been recognized for her pro bono work with the Legal Aid Society of San Diego, the AIDS Legal Referral Panel, the San Francisco LGBT Community Center and The Bar Association of San Francisco.

In 20014, Ms. Hone earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Utah. She then attended the University of San Diego School of Law, where she graduated in 2007 with her Juris Doctor. The next year, she earned her Master of Laws in Taxation from the same school and is a former adjunct professor for both the Santa Clara University School of Law and the Golden Gate University School of Law.

She served on the executive committee of the Bay Area Young Tax Lawyers as co-chair and on The State Bar of California’s Tax Procedure and Litigation Committee on the Executive Committee. Ms. Hone is currently a member of the Taxation Section of The Bar Association of San Francisco, the American Bar Association and The State Bar of California.
