Attorney Profile

Attorney Daniel Shanfield is the founder and president of the Law Offices of Daniel Shanfield, where he focuses exclusively on immigration law. With office locations in both San Jose and San Francisco, Mr. Shanfield and his law firm represents clients throughout Northern California and around the world with their legal issues involving deportation and criminal immigration defense, citizenship and naturalization applications, permanent resident applications and petitions, immigrant and nonimmigrant visas, humanitarian immigration cases, and all other related areas.

Born to Latin American parents, Mr. Shanfield understands the legal struggles immigrants can face. Throughout his career, he has devoted his practice to protecting the rights and liberties of individuals, families and refugees across the globe, often volunteering his time and services, pro bono, to further the cause for human rights.

Mr. Shanfield began his legal career in 1997 after obtaining his Juris Doctor from the University of California, Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law, and receiving his license to practice from the State Bar of California. He then served as a trial attorney with the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), as staff attorney for the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights in New York, and as a legal advisor to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), honing his legal skills before entering private practice.

In addition to practicing before all federal immigration courts and California state courts, Daniel is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of California, the U.S. District Court for the Federal District and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit. Additionally, he represents clients before the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the State Department (DOS).

Mr. Shanfield is fully dedicated to community service.  Daniel currently serves as liaison to the consulate general of Mexico in San Jose on behalf of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), having previously served as chair for the organization's Santa Clara Valley chapter. He is also a member of the the international law committees for both the American Bar Association and California State Bar.  Daniel is committed to improving the standards of immigration practice, and serves as a legal instructor on advanced immigration law topics, training other immigration lawyers throughout the United States on criminal immigration law and asylum defense.

Recognized for his high ethical standards and professionalism, he has received numerous awards and honors, including a Five-Star peer review rating* from Martindale-Hubbell.

*AV®, AV Preeminent®, Martindale-Hubbell Distinguished and Martindale-Hubbell Notable are certification marks used under license in accordance with the Martindale-Hubbell certification procedures, standards and policies.
