Douglas L. Johnson is a founding partner at Johnson & Johnson LLP. Mr. Johnson handles right of publicity cases and in 2016, he represented an actor in such a matter and was able to obtain a seven-figure jury award.
Mr. Johnson routinely handles profit participation disputes against television and movie studios. His clients in these matters have included Jack Klugman, Sylvester Stallone, Richard Dreyfuss and television producer Glen Larson. He has acted as co-lead counsel in class actions against major studios in cases involving home video royalty underpayments, and he represented recording artists in class actions against record companies concerning digital download royalties that ended up in favorable settlements for his clients.
As an undergraduate, Mr. Johnson attended the University of Southern California, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in political science in 1996. He then enrolled at the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law and was awarded his Juris Doctor in 2000. In private practice for his entire career, Mr. Johnson founded Johnson and Johnson LLP in July 2007. He is admitted to practice before all California state courts as well as before several federal courts including the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.
Mr. Johnson frequently serves as a panelist for the Entertainment Law Section of the Beverly Hills Bar Association. He has written several articles for scholarly journals, and since 2012 he has been an adjunct professor at Southwestern Law School, where he teaches courses on entertainment and media litigation.
