David A. Shaneyfelt

David A. Shaneyfelt is an attorney with The Alvarez Firm, which has law offices in Calabasas, Camarillo, Westlake Village, Seal Beach and Irvine, California. A nationally ranked trial attorney with 40 years of total legal experience, Mr. Shaneyfelt focuses his practice primarily on insurance law, and he represents individual policyholders as well as public and private businesses throughout Los Angeles and surrounding areas of Southern California who seek their rightful insurance policy benefits.

Throughout the course of his legal career, Mr. Shaneyfelt has represented clients in both defense and indemnity of a wide range of issues, including employment practice liability cases, director and officer liability, professional malpractice, accidental death insurance claims, and other insurance-related matters. In addition, he has handled coverage of wage and hour class actions along with numerous other complex civil litigation matters involving contract disputes, unfair competition, fair housing issues and more.

He is also a prolific author who has published numerous articles in various trade journals, and he helped author the Corporate Policyholders' 50-State Guide: The Right to Independent Counsel, which has become an invaluable reference for in-house counsel dealing with serious legal disputes in which the insurance companies select the attorneys.

A 1981 graduate of Thomas Aquinas College, Mr. Shaneyfelt obtained his Juris Doctor from Willamette University College of Law in 1984. While there, he served as senior editor of the school's Law Review.  He formerly served as a trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Division, in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Shaneyfelt holds his license to practice in Illinois, Oregon and California, and he is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Central, Southern and Northern Districts of California; the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois; the Western District of Washington; the Southern District of Mississippi; and the District of Hawaii. He also practices before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th and 9th Circuits and the U.S. Supreme Court.
