While there, he served as associate editor for the University of Puget Sound Law Review, which has since been renamed as the Seattle University Law Review. He also served as chair of the Membership Committee for The International Legal Honor Society of Phi Delta Phi and received the American Jurisprudence Award in trusts and estates. After receiving his Juris Doctor in 1980, Mr. Lester proceeded to earn his Master of Laws in taxation in 1981 from Boston University School of Law.

As a member of The State Bar of California, Mr. Lester may practice before all California state courts. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Southern, Central and Eastern Districts of California, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit and the U.S. Tax Court. Mr. Lester currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the California Board of Legal Specialization with his term expiring in 2020.  Mr. Lester holds memberships with the Ventura County and the Los Angeles County bar associations and is a frequent speaker and presenter at local bar and national continuing legal education programs.
