    Attorney Profile

After spending more than 35 years as a civil litigation attorney, Jean M. Lawler shifted her focus at the beginning of 2017, and since then she has devoted her practice to alternative dispute resolution. She is based in El Segundo, California, and she handles cases throughout the greater Los Angeles/Long Beach metropolitan area. Ms. Lawler has been admitted to practice in California since 1979, and she is also admitted to practice in Oregon as well as before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Eastern, Central, and Southern Districts of California.

In her ADR practice, Ms. Lawler has assisted both people and businesses that are involved in a variety of disputes and in many cases wish to avoid the publicity, expense, risks, and duration of a courtroom battle. The types of matters that she has mediated have involved sexual harassment and other employment law issues, insurance coverage, data breaches, invasion of privacy governed by the California Consumer Privacy Act, ransomware, ADA accessibility, subrogation, and other delicate matters. Ms. Lawler has received extensive training in mediation through the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California as well as through private instruction, and she has been very successful in helping lawyers and their clients come to an accord. Her track record has been recognized by her fellow attorneys who have awarded her an AV Preeminent* peer review rating through Martindale-Hubbell.

Ms. Lawler majored in finance at Loyola Marymount University and received a bachelor’s in business administration in 1976. Her legal education was obtained at Loyola Law School, and she participated in national and international moot court competitions before graduating in 1979. Prior to opening her ADR practice, Ms. Lawler was a senior partner at a well-known Los Angeles law firm.
