During law school, Mr. Rill volunteered through the San Diego Legal Society to assist victims of domestic violence. Mr. Rill speaks, reads and writes fluently in Spanish and has represented numerous Spanish-only speaking clients. He is an active member of the Orange County Trial Lawyers Association and the Orange County Bar Association.

Mr. Rill graduated from the University of San Diego School of Law in 2010, where he excelled in oral advocacy and was awarded for his pro bono legal service. Prior to that, he attended the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he graduated with a degree in Politics and a minor in History. At Santa Cruz, Mr. Rill was the Captain of the Surf Team and was a member of the golf team at Cabrillo College. In his free time, Mr. Rill enjoys surfing and golfing throughout southern California. He and his family live in their hometown of Newport Beach.

  • Pickett v. City of Huntington Beach.  OCSC Case No. 30-2014-00754342-CU-PA-CJC.  3-week jury trial in Orange County Superior Court, Department 33, James Crandall, Judge Presiding.  Rill handled this case along with Martin Kanarek, Esq.  Michael Gates and Brian Williams of the Huntington Beach City Attorney and Elizabeth Skane of Skane Wilcox represented the defendant.  A Huntington Beach parking control officer caused a motor vehicle collision with an elderly couple.  The elderly couple were seriously injured and the City of Huntington Beach blamed the elderly couple for causing the collision.  During the third week of trial, the case was settled for $1,000,000.00., 2017
  • Sparks v. Mason, January 2017.  Riverside Case No. RIC1512644.  4-day jury trial in Riverside Superior Court, Department 2, Irma Asberry, Judge Presiding.  Rill handled this trial solo.  Dan Stein, Esq. of Ford, Walker, Haggerty & Behar on behalf of Defendant, Krista Mason.  50-year old Rhonda Sparks was rear-ended by an inattentive 19-year old.  Plaintiff went to the Kaiser emergency room and was diagnosed with a concussion and cervical strain.  She treated with a chiropractor for four months and had a neurological workup from Kaiser due to ongoing hand numbness.  Total medical bills were $13,019.65.  Defendant admitted liability but challenged damages, including the reasonableness of the medical bills and treatment.  In a verdict on February 6, 2017, the jury awarded $23,519.65, which included payment of all medical bills and $10,500 in general damages., 2017
  • Van v. Brandt, August 2016.  OCSC Case No. 30 2015 00780820.  2-day jury trial in OCSC, Dept C-61, Carmen Luege, Commissioner Presiding.  Rill handled this trial solo.  Brian Rizzi, Esq. of Law Offices of Andrew Macrae on behalf of Defendant, Carolyn Brandt.  16-year old Plaintiff was rear-ended by her 16-year old friend while driving to lunch from Edison High School.  Minimal impact.  Plaintiff saw a doctor and was diagnosed with whiplash and prescribed physical therapy.  Defendant admitted liability but challenged damages.  In a verdict on August 11, 2016, the jury found for Plaintiff and awarded $1,445.20 in economic damages and $3,500 in general damages., 2016
  • Trial: Bayliss v. Byrnes. Los Angeles Superior Court Case No. BC 519115. Co-chair on 1-week jury trial against John Doherty, Esq. of Doherty & Catlow. Plaintiff motorcycle rider claimed negligence against defendant driver arising out of non-impact traffic incident. Liability was contested. Conducted Opening Statement, examination of Plaintiff, examination of Defendant, examination of Plaintiff’s employer; examination of Plaintiff’s medical expert, cross-exam of Defendant’s Medical Expert, Closing Argument. Plaintiff’s verdict in the amount of $22,000. Defendant found 100% liable
  • Trial: Balaj v. Estate of Ramos, OCSC Case No. 30-2014-007232354-day jury trial in OCSC, Dept. C-11, Andrew Banks, Judge Presiding. Scott Meininger, Esq. of Michael Maguire & Associates on behalf of defendant, Estate of Ramos. Plaintiff was sideswiped by Ramos. Defendant admitted liability but defense experts Milton Legome, M.D. and Judson Welcher, Ph.D. challenged liability and damages. Plaintiff's verdict for $35,000, which exceeded Plaintiff’s Statutory Offer to Compromise
  • Trial: Cashman v. Caltrans, et al. Riverside Superior Court Case No. RIC 1214314. Co-chair on 6-week jury trial against Caltrans house counsel.  Plaintiff brought suit against Caltrans and underinsured driver claiming Dangerous Condition of Public Property.  Conducted Opening Statement, examination of 13 witnesses, including Plaintiff, Defendant, Direct exam of Plaintiff’s liability anddamages experts; Cross exam of Caltrans’ liability and damages experts; closing argument. Plaintiff’s verdict in the amount of $951,285.64.
