Mr. Saferstein has also served on a number of committees and commissions, including the 9th Circuit Judicial Conference Executive Committee. He has served as chair of the Los Angeles County Bar Association Antitrust and Unfair Business Practices Committee, and he helped establish the California State Bar Access to Justice Commission. He has also served as regional director of the Federal Trade Commission in Los Angeles, and he is an active member of several other local, state and national legal organizations.

Honored for his professionalism and service, Mr. Saferstein received the John Frank Award from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in 2018, and he has received a certificate of appreciation from the Legal Aid Society of California and the California Judicial Council. A 1965 graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, Mr. Saferstein obtained his Juris Doctor magna cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1968, where he served as executive editor of the Harvard Law Review.
