Attorney Joel B. Castro is the founder and managing partner of Castro & Associates, a boutique law firm in Los Angeles, California, that focuses primarily on construction law and complex construction litigation.

An attorney for more than 40 years, Mr. Castro has achieved unprecedented success representing a diverse range of clients with issues involving structural defects, soil failures, mold and fungus infestations, land use disputes, and other similar matters. He also has extensive experience advocating on behalf of those who suffered injuries or lost a loved one due to construction defects.

Among his most notable successes; he recently obtained a $55 million recovery for owners of the Wilshire Vermont subway station in Los Angeles; he tried a 10 month jury trial and won a $23 million verdict on behalf of condominium owners after their 200-unit complex, suffered considerable landfill damage due to soil subsidence. He has also tried and won numerous wrongful death and personal injury cases resulting from building collapses due to earthquakes. 

A pioneer in his field, Mr. Castro has served as lead counsel on many lawsuits that were the first of their kind in California, and he has lectured extensively throughout the country on a variety of topics related to seismic failures, complex construction litigation, failure analyses, document retrieval and management, and other subjects. National Geographic has featured him in its magazine as well as on its television channel, and he has offered in-depth commentary for various print and televised news outlets throughout the country.

For more than 15 years, he has conducted numerous continuing legal education seminars before various organizations across the nation, and he serves as contributing editor for the California Construction Law Reporter.

A 1972 graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles, Mr. Castro obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Law, in 1976. He holds an AV Preeminent peer review rating* from Martindale-Hubbell, and he has received a number of awards and honors, including the Jennifer Myrick Justice Advocacy Award in 2012 and the Flaig Award in 2015 from the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
