Michael L. Tuchin is a founding member and co-manager of the Los Angeles, California, law firm of Klee, Tuchin, Bogdanoff & Stern LLP. Mr. Tuchin represents debtors, equity holders, secured and unsecured creditors, committees, trustees, and parties interested in acquiring assets from troubled companies.
Mr. Tuchin has been ranked by Chambers USA in the 1st Tier for Bankruptcy and Restructuring in California every year since 2007, and has been recognized among the top 100 lawyers in Los Angles County every year since 2004.
Mr. Tuchin has helped guide many high-profile companies through successful chapter 11 restructurings, including Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, Inc., Lake at Las Vegas Joint Venture, LLC and Affiliates, Frederick’s of Hollywood, Inc., American Restaurant Group, Avado Brands, and Samuels Jewelers, Inc.
He also has led successful out-of-court restructurings for companies such as MGM-Mirage, the Lusk Company, L.A. Kings, Ltd., a large giftware company, an international manufacturer of computer accessories, and a national express delivery business.
Mr. Tuchin's recent creditor representations have included Suzuki Motor Corporation, a Japan-based manufacturer of engines and vehicles, and the largest creditor of chapter 11 debtor American Suzuki Motor Corporation. Mr. Tuchin has represented Viacom, Paramount, CBS and Cerberus as creditors in numerous cases nationwide. He also has been represented parties in the cases of such well-known companies as Blockbuster, Inc., Eastman Kodak, Tower Records, United Airlines and Kmart.
Mr. Tuchin represented the Town of Mammoth Lakes, California, in its successful chapter 9 municipal bankruptcy case and currently represents the chapter 7 trustee in the Girls Gone Wild chapter 11 cases.
After earning a bachelor's degree in psychology at Stanford University, where he graduated with honors and distinction, Mr. Tuchin completed his legal studies at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law. While in law school, he was an extern for a federal judge in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.
Mr. Tuchin is admitted to practice law in California and in federal bankruptcy courts. He is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation and a fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy. He has served on the board of the Los Angeles Bankruptcy Forum and on the board of governors for the Financial Lawyers Conference. He has also worked as editor of the California Bankruptcy Journal.
