Details
Jeffrey W. Cowan is a trial lawyer in Los Angeles, California focusing on employment and business litigation. Mr. Cowan has successfully sued not only some of nation's biggest corporations but also Donald Trump's golf club in Los Angeles (in a class action lawsuit denied meal and rest breaks). With respect to employment law, Mr. Cowan represents individual clients, small businesses and large corporations in cases such as sexual harassment, whistleblower claims, workplace discrimination, wrongful termination, and wage and hour disputes. His expertise/experience in business disputes includes cases that involve business fraud, trade secret disputes, unfair competition, non-competition covenants, commercial lease disputes and other complex business litigation matters.
In 2022, Mr. Cowan won (by defending successfully) a $20 million three-week, long-cause jury trial of trade secret and unfair competition claims that he took over after his client's original lawyer, who had spent seven years litigating the lawsuit, came down with a medical issue.
Mr. Cowan listens to his clients' needs and then he takes a strategic approach to help them achieve their short- and long-term goals. Before founding his own firm, Mr. Cowan spent nine years as a partner and associate at an AV-rated firm in Los Angeles, and he also prosecuted criminal trials through the Los Angeles County Bar Association's Trial Advocacy Program. For his ethics, professionalism and success, Mr. Cowan has received (since 2002) the highest possible rating of AV Preeminent* from Martindale-Hubbell. He also holds an Avvo "Superb" rating.
Beyond the courtroom, Mr. Cowan serves on the board of directors for the Cornell Club of Los Angeles. He also enjoys spending time with his sons when they are home from college and performing as a professional magician.
Mr. Cowan graduated cum laude in history from Cornell University. He received his J.D. from the UCLA School of Law in 1991.

- The LA Auto Show spent over seven years in business litigation after it replaced its long time primary subcontractor, that was providing little value, by putting the work out to bid nationally and eventually hiring a new provider. Indeed, after making a change that saved it many hundreds of thousands of dollars annually, the LA Auto Show found itself being sued for stealing trade secrets and violating violating California Business & Profession’s Code § 17045's prohibition against secret revenue sharing that hurts competition. Then, in 2021, just as the parties were about to pick the jury, the auto show's lawyer developed medical issues that kept him from doing the trial. Jeffrey Cowan was retained to take over. He learned a case with more than 26 witnesses and 900 exhibits. In March 2022 – after 21 days of trial with dozens of witnesses testifying in person and via video – Mr. Cowan won a motion for a non-suit on all claims. Later, the jury said it they would have voted for the LA Auto show if it had been able to do so., 2022
