Jim Morris obtained a $5,000,000.00 verdict against Yamaha USA, Inc. in October of 2024 in Riverside County, CA on behalf of Chad Defries. This followed a 2019 defense verdict, reversal on appeal in the 4th court and the CA Supreme Court due to the trial court's failure to instruct the jury on non-delegable duty, CACI 3713. (Chad Defries v. Yamaha)
From 2020 to 2024, Jim accepted metal on metal hip claims involving patients who had received their implants between 2006 and 2010. The implants were recalled in 2010 due to their tendency to cause metallosis, pseudotumors, and higher than expected cobalt and chromium metal ion release into the bloodstream. The vast majority of MLF's clientele were led to believe that they had no claim since the implants in many cases survived over 10 years. Mr. Morris obtained experts to dispute this position since the relevant medicine and science did not support such a contention. Depositions were taken in the Federal MDL and CA JCCP and after significant depositions and expert discovery, over 100 cases resolved amicably.
Jim Morris obtained a $1.3 million dollar verdict on behalf of UP BMWE member Dennis Jordan in a FELA diesel gas exposure case in Visalia, CA in February of 2020. The case resolved by settlement shortly afterwards.
Jim Morris and Brent Coon received a $5,000,000.00 jury verdict in Las Vegas, NV Federal Court on behalf of railroader Greg Gibbons against Union Pacific RR following a trucking accident on May, 7 2018. The verdict included future wage loss, future pain and suffering, mental anguish and medical charges.
Jim Morris obtained a jury verdict of $29,870,000 against Wyeth and Upjohn in MDL 1507 that oversees the hormone replacement therapy litigation. It was the first plaintiff's victory in the MDL court. (Scroggin v. Wyeth and Upjohn) Jim previously obtained the first verdict against Upjohn nationally in the Hormone Replacement Therapy litigation in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. (Simon v. Wyeth and Pfizer).
Before those, Jim obtained the first intermediate opt-out verdict in the Fen-phen litigation and the first verdict ever against PPG in the asbestos litigation. He is currently accepting hip replacement cases, IVC filter cases, Talcum powder ovarian cancer cases, transvaginal mesh cases, and mesothelioma cases. He has been licensed since 1986 and became licensed in California in 2014. He is Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation.
