Ben Coughlan

Ben Coughlan is a co-founder and partner at the San Diego-based law firm Coughlan & Vinel in California. He is a first-chair trial lawyer concentrating his practice on:

·       Road and motor vehicle accidents

·       Employment and public entity lawsuits

·       Birth injury 

·       Premises liability

·       Medical malpractice 

·       Slip-and-fall injuries 

·       Sexual abuse and misconduct 

·       STD transmission 

·       Wrongful death

Pledging to stand up for the victims of negligence and wrongdoings of others, Mr. Coughlan handles toxic torts and whistleblower lawsuits as well. He gives his undivided personal attention to each case, finding ways to put across his clients’ narratives effectively and get the required results. He has about a decade of experience working with various kinds of personal injury cases including several high-profile ones. Moreover, he spent considerable time working for a large plaintiff’s firm prior to starting his own.

Mr. Coughlan serves as an adjunct professor at the University of San Diego School of Law, where he imparts invaluable knowledge to law students. In addition, he is a trial and deposition skills trainer for the National Institute for Trial Advocacy. He is also elected as the president of the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego and is the editor of the Trial Bar News’ Tort Law Section.

With in-depth knowledge related to brain and spinal cord injury cases, Mr. Coughlan is a published author who co-authored and edited the book – Journey Towards Recovery: A Brain Injury Guide for Survivors. He regularly engages in seminars and speaking events on these topics for the community. 

Mr. Coughlan is a Bachelor of Science graduate in journalism from the Northwestern University Medill School of Journalism in Illinois. He obtained his Juris Doctor in 2012 from the University of San Diego School of Law. He worked for a few years in the media relations department of the San Diego Padres before taking up his career in law. 

Honored for his exemplary career records, Mr. Coughlan was selected to the San Diego Metro Magazine’s list of Top 10 Attorneys Overall and 40 Under 40. Furthermore, he was named to the list of America’s Top 100 Personal Injury Attorneys, The National Trial Lawyers’ 40 Under 40 and the San Diego Reader’s Top Attorneys.
