Jeffrey L. Kaloustian

Jeffrey L. Kaloustian is the founder of the Law Office of Jeffrey Kaloustian in Grass Valley, California, serving clients throughout Oakland, the San Francisco Bay Area, the Sierra Nevada foothills and the greater Sacramento region. His practice includes criminal defense, cannabis law, DUI representation, post-conviction relief, civil rights-related matters and community-oriented legal advocacy.

Since opening his firm in 2011, Mr. Kaloustian has become known for providing honest, compassionate and highly skilled legal representation across a wide range of criminal defense and community-centered matters. Widely regarded as a thoughtful, strategic and deeply effective advocate, he brings clarity, commitment and strength to every client he represents.

Mr. Kaloustian earned his Bachelor of Science in geography from the University of Utah and later completed a Non-Profit Management Certificate through the University of Nevada, Reno. He went on to earn his Juris Doctor from the University of San Francisco School of Law, where he served on the USF Law Review, co-chaired the Public Interest Law Foundation, earned a Public Interest Law Certificate and received the school’s prestigious Pursuit of Justice Award. 

After his admission to The State Bar of California in 2010, Mr. Kaloustian completed a fellowship with the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Dharamsala, India, and later contributed research and writing to the award-winning Living on a Dollar a Day book project. He is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of California and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Eastern Districts of California.

Professional involvement has long been central to Mr. Kaloustian’s work. He is a founding member of the Psychedelic Bar Association and maintains active roles within the National Lawyers Guild, Human Rights Advocates, the California DUI Lawyers Association, the International Cannabis Bar Association, CaNORML and several international human rights organizations. His community affiliations include the Nevada County Cannabis Alliance and long-standing partnerships with nonprofits focused on justice, education and humanitarian service.

A committed human rights defender and dedicated community advocate, Mr. Kaloustian continues to integrate service, education and compassion into his practice. Now based in Nevada County, he proudly serves clients across Northern California while balancing his work with meaningful community engagement.
