Na'il Benjamin founded Benjamin Law Group, in Hayward, California, following a nearly nine-year tenure working with various firms and as a deputy city attorney in San Francisco, where he adeptly handled a variety of labor and employment litigation matters. His role involved labor negotiations, arbitrations, hearings and trials, showcasing his capability as a trial attorney with extensive experience in resolving complex cases.
Mr. Benjamin has garnered recognition as a leading attorney by the National Black Lawyers – Top 100 and The Global Directory of Who’s Who as a Top Lawyer in 2016. His litigation successes span antitrust class actions, securities class actions, wage-and-hour class actions, multi-plaintiff cases under the Private Attorney General’s Act, and other multi-plaintiff and single-plaintiff matters. He has demonstrated his legal acumen in state courts, multiple federal courts, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit, as well as before arbitrators, administrative law judges, the National Labor Relations Board and the California Public Employment Relations Board.
Beyond litigation, Mr. Benjamin manages business transactions for technology start-ups and established businesses, including licensing agreements, formation documents, agreements between founders and investors, and employment agreements. His community service efforts were acknowledged with the Brett E. Merriman Award.
Mr. Benjamin’s entrepreneurial spirit is evident through his creation, ownership and management of several companies such as a real estate company, an investment and asset management company, and a trucking and brokerage company. These experiences have enabled him to represent professional athletes in business transactions and connect them with resources for life beyond their athletic careers. His involvement extends to consulting with start-ups and offering business advice to entrepreneurs.
Active in business and community affairs, Mr. Benjamin has supported political candidates and action committees. He currently serves his second term as a board member for the California Association of Black Lawyers and has held positions on the Charles Houston Bar Association Board and the advisory board for the Bar Association of San Francisco’s Diversity Pipeline Programs.
Mr. Benjamin graduated from the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco, concentrating on civil litigation. During his time there, he participated in the Civil Justice Clinic and externed for the Honorable Thelton Henderson of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. His commitment to community service is longstanding, including mentoring in Alameda County’s diversion program for first-time drug offenders.
